Nature and Notecards: Guided Nature Exploration and Paper Making

Campers will take a guided walk outdoors and gather flowers, leaves, and other organic materials for their projects. Then, campers will make their own unique paper by adding the items collected earlier. After the paper has dried, campers can create notecards, journals, or other fun crafts!

Hosted by Amanda G., Sister Outsider

Jersey girl by way of the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, Amanda enjoys curating affirming and restorative experiences for fat community. Returning to this year’s Fat Camp as Sister Outsider, Amanda is excited to share her love of the outdoors and experience the playful joy of arts n’ crafts. When she is not hiking or backpacking, Amanda can be found at home perfecting her savory s’mores recipe and watching reruns of Golden Girls. She is and will always be, Dorothy Zbornak.

Speedy Portrait Drawing

Folks will be paired up with new friends to draw quick portraits. You will only have 10 minutes per drawing! This event is open for ALL artistic abilities. Bad, funky, goofy, portraits encouraged. The goal of this event is to meet new people and come home with some silly, new art!

Hosted by: T./Talya M. (they/she)

T. is an Iowa-based community worker and artist interested in the plurality of existence. As a fat, queer, disabled, and transgender individual, Miller doesn’t shy away from the complexities of identity. With 10+ years of experience, their projects have been featured regionally and nationally. While varying in medium and method, there is a unifying narrative of creative connection throughout their work in both physical pieces and community spaces. They are super excited to be heading back to Rad Fat Adventure Camp! ✿

Beaded earrings

Learn how to bead earrings. Choose from two styles and allow your inner jewelry designer to take hold!

Hosted by: Janell H.

Hello, my name is Janell. I’m a single mom to twin 18‑year‑olds who are preparing to head off to college, which is both exciting and a little surreal. I am Afro‑Indigenous, and that identity grounds much of the work I do and the way I move through the world. I work for a local county and am an active member of my union, where I use my voice to advocate for greater inclusivity — especially around disability access and fat inclusivity.

Outside of work, I’ve spent years bead working. I don’t claim to be an expert; I do it for the peace, joy, and connection the process brings me.

Writing to Wholeness: a Creative Writing Workshop for Collective Healing

Creative writing is a healing practice that can help us reflect on our experiences, uncover and process our emotions, and connect to our deepest selves and to our communities. In this workshop, we will read poems by fat writers that center fat liberation. Then, we will do free writing exercises, and campers will have the option to share parts of their writing aloud. Writing materials will be provided during the session, but you are also welcome to bring your preferred tools.

Hosted by: Julia

Hi, I'm Julia (she/her)! I live in St. Paul, MN with my partner and our two cats. I enjoy painting, baking pies, and watching bad reality tv. Most of all, I love reading, writing, and generally talking about books. I consider myself a connoisseur of the horror genre and would be honored to recommend your first (or next!) read for spooky season.

Shared Somatic Experience

I invite you to participate in a shared group experience where we tap into our bodies sensations and our internalized lived fat experiences to reclaim and liberate our bodies through movement, self expression, and imaginative play. We will explore intuitive movement, breath attunement, and bodily sensations together in a fat affirming setting.

Hosted by: Sarah B.

I’m Sarah, but my friends call me by my last name, Berge (sounds like Bergie). I find connection with others through nature, song, laughter, deep conversation, and creative expression. I find connection with myself greatest when I am floating in a body of water. I enjoy spending time with friends and family while on the search for a treasure at a garage sale or thrift store. I love petting and celebrating the cuteness of all the furry creatures I encounter. It’s bliss when I can bring my Saint Bernard, Ingrid, along on hiking trails or any adventure. Here we are on the Ice Age Mammoth Hike Challenge last October.

Fat Sauna

Come sweat in a small intimate session. We will offer multiple sessions for three people at a time to sauna for 25 minutes by the lake, with optional swimming before or after your session!

Hosted by: Carly C.

Hi! I’m Carly and I live in St Paul with my darling doggo Ginger. I love being outside, cooking delicious food, funky music, and being in fat community. I can’t wait to bring Fat Sauna to camp this year: sauna is one of those things where we can reconnect with our bodies while being surrounded by others and is an actualized act of empowerment. Come as you are, take what you want and let’s get sweaty.

Thick Thighs & Campfire Vibes: Camping While Fat Discussion

Join us for a discussion-focused session on the unique challenges and opportunities while camping in a fat and/or disabled body. Hear from an experienced camper, get ideas and answers to your own questions, and meet others who are interested in starting or continuing their camping journey.

Hosted by: Christy E.

Christy (she/her) grew up in the Midwest and loves experiencing all 4 seasons. She is an introvert who enjoys bringing people together, craving a balance of human connection and solo adventures. Her career is ever-evolving, and currently focuses on the human side of human resources. Outside of work, you might find her reading, cooking, cuddling her 19-year old cat, hiking, camping, or traveling.

Books & Banter

Bring your current read to decompress in nature and have time to chat with other book-minded folks! We'll begin with 45-60 minutes of silent book club (reading on your own, any book of your choice) followed by 30-45 minutes to chat about our current reads and anything else book-related.

Hosted by: Claire W.

Hey folks! I’m Claire (she/her). I’m an avid reader, rock climber and little treat getter :) I have two sweet kittens, Eliza and Becks, who I snuggle with any chance I get! I love spending time outdoors, crafting, and being in community with fellow queer and fat folks.

Professionally, I’m a sexual health educator (and director of an awesome education team) and size inclusivity specialist. Personally, I am a fat activist and run a fat rock climbing club (Climb Big TC).

Improv for Fat Folx

Are you a fan of DropOut? Do you love watching Who’s Line Is It Anyway? Have you ever wondered how people who do live play D&D do it? Join Britt, an improviser of 10 years, as they lead you through the basics of improvised comedy. Come to play! Open to all levels of improv experience!

Hosted by: Britt J.

Britt is an improviser, puppeteer, educator, creator, and clown hailing from the twin cities. They have been improvising since 2017 and have directed and produced several original improvised shows with a focus on centering queer and other marginalized voices including PattyCakes, PattyCakes Presents: Claustrophobia, Doldrums, No-Fear ShakeQueer, and Yes, Anderson. They have also had the honor of playing in Mighty Improv Rangers, Family Funeral, and The Thursday Night Improv Spectacular at Strike Theater. Britt is the reigning Assistant Director for the crowd favorite show Family Dinner. Britt is passionate about using the medium of improvised narrative storytelling to highlight queer joy and portray their vision of an inclusive and equitable future for all on the stage.

Reimagining Fat Friendship

In this session, we’ll reflect on how being in a fat body has shaped our experiences in friendship and think about the kinds of friendships we want to build moving forward. We’ll spend some time in quiet reflection and then choose a word or short phrase that represents the kind of care, connection, or energy we want in our friendships.

The main activity will be creating beaded friendship bracelets using that word or phrase with space to talk, connect, or work quietly. At the end, we will have the option to share our words, reflect in pairs, or exchange bracelets if you'd like. Sharing is always optional.

Hosted by: Chelsea

Chelsea is a Registered Art Therapist who believes in the power of creativity, connection, and making space for people to be themselves. When they’re not making art, you can find them floating in lakes, listening to sapphic pop, playing cozy games on their Nintendo Switch, watching the MN Lynx, or getting lost in a good queer romance novel. They also serve as Vice Chair on the board of Authentically Fat, where they support work centered on body liberation and community care.
