From Memory to Story: A Fat Narrative Project Storytelling Workshop
Recreation Center Multipurpose Room
Everyone has stories worth telling. Join Authentically Fat for a Fat Narrative Project inspired workshop to reflect on meaningful experiences in your fat body, uncover stories you want to tell, and explore what makes those stories connect with others. Through guided reflection, conversation, and fun, low-pressure storytelling activities, you'll have the chance to practice sharing in small groups, cheer each other on, and build confidence in your own voice. No writing, storytelling, or performance experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play. If you want to, you'll leave with a story you can share later at the camp variety show or at a future Fat Narrative Project event.
Hosted by: Chelsea
Chelsea is a Registered Art Therapist who believes in the power of creativity, connection, and making space for people to be themselves. When they’re not making art, you can find them floating in lakes, listening to sapphic pop, playing cozy games on their Nintendo Switch, watching the MN Lynx, or getting lost in a good queer romance novel. They also serve as Vice Chair on the board of Authentically Fat, where they support work centered on body liberation and community care.
Mindful Nature Walk for Curious Humans
This is not a hike. This is an invitation to slow down and be one with the great outdoors.
Inspired by forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku), a Japanese practice of intentionally connecting with nature through the senses, this session seeks to honor the spirit of that tradition while acknowledging that we are visitors to a practice rooted in a culture not our own. Rather than claiming expertise, we approach this experience with gratitude, curiosity, and respect.
Together, we will move slowly through the landscape. There is no mileage goal, no destination, and no expectation that anyone maintain a particular pace. We travel at the speed of the group, stopping often to notice what is calling for our attention. A bird. A patch of moss. The way light shines through a branch. A mushroom that seems to have strong opinions.
Meet at Camp Lounge
Participants will be invited to engage their senses, observe closely, reflect quietly, and follow the subtle invitations nature offers. Sometimes that means being still for several minutes. Sometimes it means following a trail of wonder that nobody planned.
This session is rooted in the belief that nature is not something we conquer, consume, or accomplish. It is something we build a relationship with.
At the conclusion of our wandering, we will gather for a whimsical closing ceremony, a simple and playful ritual of gratitude, reflection, and perhaps a little bit of magic to honor what we noticed, what we learned, and what we are carrying back with us.
This experience is ideal for people who are tired, curious, overwhelmed, nature-loving, nature-skeptical, a little goblin-corey or simply longing for a quieter way to spend an hour.
Hosted by: Arwen
Arwen is a fat outdoors enthusiast who plans to change the world by making apparel and gear for all the fat outdoorsy (and future fat outdoorsy) people out there.
With over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and fund development, Arwen is also a recognized voice in outdoor equity and inclusion work in Vermont. Arwen loves swimming in lakes, shady trails, and celebrating Halloween year-round.
Rad Fat Camp Badge Making
Lower Level Lakeside Cabin 3
You deserve recognition for your accomplishments and I believe that merit badges should continue to be part of adulthood, not just Girl Scouts! Inspired by the Rad Fatty Merit Badges by Stacy Bias, we will reflect, discuss, and design the merit badges we wish existed for our accomplishments.
After designing badges that are as silly, serious, or aspirational as you want, we’ll make our designs into wearable button pins.
Hosted by: annie j.
Annie was a Girl Scout for 12 years and has never recovered from learning that adulthood doesn’t come with a built-in reward system. She created Rad Fat Adventure Camp to bring the joy of camp to fat liberation and the Minnesota fat community.

Creative writing is a healing practice that can help us reflect on our experiences, uncover and process our emotions, and connect to our deepest selves and to our communities. In this workshop, we will read poems by fat writers that center fat liberation. Then, we will do free writing exercises, and campers will have the option to share parts of their writing aloud. Writing materials will be provided during the session, but you are also welcome to bring your preferred tools.

I’m Sarah, but my friends call me by my last name, Berge (sounds like Bergie). I find connection with others through nature, song, laughter, deep conversation, and creative expression. I find connection with myself greatest when I am floating in a body of water. I enjoy spending time with friends and family while on the search for a treasure at a garage sale or thrift store. I love petting and celebrating the cuteness of all the furry creatures I encounter. It’s bliss when I can bring my Saint Bernard, Ingrid, along on hiking trails or any adventure. Here we are on the Ice Age Mammoth Hike Challenge last October.
